HERO IN THE DEFENSE OF BARCELONA CITY IN 1714
In Moià village , there is Rafael Casanova’s home where he who was born in 1660. He was Counsellor of Barcelona City and hero in its defence defence during the siege in 1714 by the Borbonic troops. Nowadays, that house holds the Museum of Rafael Casanova.
THE BUILDING DATES OF THE YEAR 1570 aC
The family, who rebuilt some parts and broadened the building, acquired it in the middle of 17th century, which already existed in 1570.
On it, you can see a beautiful gothic window. On the first floor, is preserved a pictorial decoration of the 18th century showing the cycle of the holy Ester.
THE FAMILY ORIGINS
Rafael Casanova Comes was born in Moià by the year 1660. He was one of the eleven sons of Rafael Casanova Solà, natural of Moià, and of Maria Comes Sors, from Granollers. In the moment of his birth, the Casanova enjoyed a solid economic position. Owners of homesteads and lands, they were devoted to the trade of grain and wool.
The family had a long tradition of participation in the public affairs. Francesc Casanova (grandfather) had been a captain of the Saintly Union, fighting against the bandits, and Rafael Casanova (father) had been a head of the alarm service of the Moianès (1650), counselor of the town (1652), under chief of Moià and the Moianès (1659) and, short before his death (1682), royal mayor of the town.
AT PRESENT THE HOUSE IS A MUSEUM
It is the Rafael Casanova Museum where you can find an explanation of the life of Rafael Casanova, the municipal file and the paleontological archaeological museum of Moià.

You can visit the Rafael Casanova Museum form Tuesday to Sunday, festive Mondays and Mondays before a bank holiday: from 10.00 to 13.30 and from 16.00 to 19.00.
The museum is closed on non-festive Mondays, 25th and 26th of December and 1st and 6th of January.
Tickets are sold to 30 minutes before closing time.
FREE ENTRANCE ON SOME DATES
Every Tuesday, on the 15th of August (Local festivity in Moià), 23rd of April, 18th of May (International Museums day), on the 11th of September and for the European Conference of the Patrimony in Catalonia the ticket it is free for everybody.
